Mission 3

Process

Our goals for this mission were to research a topic then make a video about the topic and edit it with Adobe premier pro. The end product that we had hoped to produce was a video about 7-10 minutes in length that is related to the topic we researched. A resource that helped us along the way was a laptop which we used to record the audio because we used our phones to record different camera angles and the audio quality wasn't great so we had to improvise. Another resource that helped us along the way was Adobe Premier Pro which was used to edit the video clips together and adding the audio from the laptop. We used clips from each of our phones and synced the audio to match up with the timing of the videos. This mission didn't require any presentation other than the video which differed from the other two. We used social media to research our topic which was how the internet delivers the news to you through social media such as Twitters Trending page, Instagrams Discover section and Snapchat stories. We carried out some experiments to see if each persons trending page was personalized by comparing between us etc.

Product

In terms of the creation of this product, we started with brainstorming, we had a few ideas but the group settled on doing a Joe Rogan type video of one of his podcasts where there would be two or more people sitting talking about a certain topic rather than doing a news report because we didn't really think we could deliver the information effectively if we acted as news reporters rather than discussing it between us. So we set up our discussion by taking one form of social media each and researching it. So I took Twitter and the two lads took instagram and snapchat, these are three social media platforms which effectively deliver news to it's users each in their own way. So once we had all done our research we found a free room in the college and set our phones up as different angles around the table, one camera recording me and Sam one one side of the table, one camera recording Jack on the other side and then lastly we had a camera set up recording all 3 of us. We then laid the laptop out on the middle of the table and started recording the audio. We then had a chat naturally taking turns presenting our points that we had prepared after the research and each offering our opinions on how the news presented to you on social media and how it is based off things like the accounts that you follow, posts that you've liked and your location, it was an enjoyable video to make. Then it was down to the editing process, this was done on adobe premier pro and it linked our 3 camera angles along with the audio recorded on the laptop.

Reflection

I learned a lot about social media and how advertising is implemented into your news and how everything you see on your social media is tailored to you based off the different aspects I discussed in the last section. It was quite eye opening to learn some of this. It can also be quite helpful when it comes to news because it does mean that most of what you are presented online is stuff you are actually interested in, for example on my twitter trending page it has a lot of things to do with the football team I support along with different artists I follow. I also learned how to use Adobe premier pro, we learned this in one of the labs which was quite helpful. I discovered that I may need to take charge more in group projects as I tend to just sit back and just find out what I need to do and that's that but in future I may need to take this on board. I think we were quite successful in the sense that we did all research a topic that we all found quite interesting as well as presenting it in an accessible way with the podcast format of the video.
